Been a while...

So, I've been just barely keeping my head above water at work for the last few months.  I think by June, things will slow down a little and I can catch my breath.

Which is good because my official training period for Chicago starts on Monday, June 4th.  Heaven help me, that's just 6 weeks away and I am in pretty awful shape at the moment.  I've been working out 3 days a week consistently but that is nowhere near enough given the training workload ahead of me.  Time to kick it into gear - and somehow carve more time out of my schedule to fit in another day of running.

Also, I picked up a "groupon/living social" type deal around here for a 4-week women's fitness bootcamp.  Starts mid-May, Monday-Thursday, 5:30-6:30 a.m.  Heaven help me with that too, because I'm not really a morning person.  What can I say, I got sucked in by the good price.  And having someone kick my butt 4 days a week is a good thing.  :-)

Lastly, the lottery for the NYC Marathon is next Wednesday.  And again, Heaven help me if I get selected for it, because at that price, I'll probably feel obligated to run it rather than deferring to 2013.

Wow, asking lots of favors from Heaven today.  :-)

Okay, some decisions made

I've had the Chicago Marathon percolating around in the back of my head for several years now, always looking at 2012 Chicago as my own personal rematch after my 2007 Chicago heatwave fiasco - 5 years ago, timing seems right, etc.

And of course, after cheering my friends on in NYC back in November, with all the excitement of that fantastic race, running the streets of my home city, I was desperate to run the NYC Marathon again.

After some thought (and spurred on by the rapid pace of registrations for Chicago), I bit the bullet and registered for Chicago before they reached their registration cap of 45,000 runners.  And I'm in the lottery for NYC Marathon.  Heaven forbid I get into NYC now that I've registered for Chicago, because I certainly don't envision myself running two marathons within 4 weeks of each other.

So the plan is, Chicago Marathon on 7October2012.  Trained up and ready to go.  And fundraising for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as always!!

what's new

So, I did my race back in December, the NYRR Ted Corbitt 15k.  I was very much at the back of the pack, but it was a great day to run, I had great company with my as one of my best friends (much faster than me) hung with me back there, and remembered and honored my Dad in the best way I know how.

Since then, I've been fitting in about 3 workouts a week, a mix of running or time on the elliptical.  I am VERY MUCH looking forward to having longer daylight hours, not that I'll necessarily be outside running, but just for improved mood. :-)

My race calendar for 2012 is fillling up a little, mostly with short stuff in the first half of the year, then hopefully 100-on-100 Heart of Vermont Relay in August (assuming we're putting a team together again).

And the big one.  My 7th NYC Marathon for MSKCC.
